Do you need herbs or prefer to use certain ones in your meals?
A number of people have come by our booth at the Aiken County Farmers Market asking if we have specific herbs like basil or dill.
While we may add specific herbs to those microgreens that we grow, we feel that you should be aware of one herbal alternative that we use: essential oils.
What Are Essential Oils?
As the most powerful part of the plant, essential oils are the aromatic liquids derived from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, seeds, resins and rinds.
The purest essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they come.
(Example: 1 drop of peppermint essential oil is equivalent to 28 cups of peppermint tea!)
Essential oils have been used for thousands of years by numerous ancient cultures.
3 Ways to Use Essential Oils
Millions of people use essential oils these 3 ways:
- Topical: apply on the skin, sometimes diluted;
- Aromatic: inhale directly or diffused; and/or
- Dietary: ingest by capsule, or in foods or beverages.
Because the essential oils we use and recommend are only 100% pure and therapeutic grade, a little goes a long way.
Depending on the application, you may need
– as little as part of a drop or
– as much as 2-3 drops at a time.
And, of course, the usage will depend upon whether or not the essential oil has been diluted in a carrier oil such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Only One Brand We Trust
Because there is no rating system for essential oils in the USA — and because the FDA allows this kind of labeling — many essential oils on the market that claim to be “100% pure” or “genuine” have actually been diluted by up to 95%!
We trust only one brand of essential oils, the one that has a quality commitment backing up everything they do.
